“The Roommate Pact” by Allison Ashley is a delightful and fun roommates-to-lovers rom-com that hooked me from the start. It works great as a standalone even though it features characters from Ashley’s first book, “Would You Rather” (which I loved)!

The story follows Claire, an ER nurse, and Graham, a firefighter, who live together in Colorado with their third roommate, Reagan, and Graham’s dog, Gertrude. Claire, wary of risk-takers after her father’s death, makes a pact with Graham: if they’re both single at forty, they’ll marry each other. She doubts it’ll happen since Graham is into risky activities like rock climbing and has a dog that dislikes her. Yet, there’s an undeniable chemistry between them.

When Graham gets seriously injured in a rock-climbing accident, Claire steps up to care for him, even dealing with Gertrude. Their relationship evolves from roommates to friends with benefits, and potentially something more.

I loved Claire and Graham! They’re interesting on their own, but together, they embark on a believable and heartfelt journey. Graham’s carefree nature and emotional journaling tugged at my heartstrings. And Gertrude’s journey of acceptance added extra charm.

Their romance was super sweet! While I wished for more chemistry in their banter, I was rooting for them. Graham’s emails were adorable, and Claire’s gesture at the end was touching.
