Under The Texas Sky by Tatum Bailey
Under The Texas Sky by Tatum Bailey follows Kian and Trent, two teens who meet in high school and come from very different but equally difficult home lives. What starts as a friendship built on shared pain slowly grows into something deeper. The story unfolds across multiple timelines. We see their present-day second chance, their first meeting, their high school years, the time they spent together right after graduation, and the nearly three years they spent apart.
This book is a true emotional ride. You’ll feel everything — joy, heartbreak, frustration, hope — and maybe even all at once. While there are a few important side characters who help shape the story, most of the focus stays on Kian and Trent as individuals and as a couple.
There are some important trigger warnings to note: alcohol abuse, drug use, sexual assault, and parental abuse are all touched on. That said, the book does deliver a well-earned happily ever after. Kian and Trent go through a lot to get there and watching them grow and fight for each other makes the journey worth it.
This is Tatum Bailey’s debut novel, and she really nailed it. The characters feel real, the emotions hit hard, and the pacing keeps you turning pages. I’ll definitely be picking up whatever she writes next.

Kian: I was sixteen years old when I met the love of my life. My life was changed from the moment I looked into his eyes, and I knew that no matter what storm life threw at us we would brave it, together. His dark hair and shy smile. His dedication to working hard and providing a life for both of us. I knew that Trent would do anything to take care of me, and I would do the same for him. No matter what it took, we were going to be together.
Trent: I was twenty-three years old when my life fell apart. I don’t know where it came from, or how to fix it. One moment, I was young and in love. Me and Kian were happy together. In the blink of an eye, the world as I knew it shifted under my feet and left me not knowing which way was up or down. Having to watch the person you love through a phone screen, and never being able to touch them is the worst kind of torture. And exactly what I deserve.
But in the end, I never truly lost. Because having him, even though our time together was cut short, is better than having a life where he never existed.
